Additional Comments:

RLS does not say which of Lucy Hutchison's works he was reading, but from the context it is likely to have been her biography of her husband which was not published in her lifetime because it was too critical of the monarchy. Booth/Mehew (footnote p 214) give the date of RLS's copy as 1806.
