Evidence: | '18th February, Thursday.
The packet steamed into the harbour backwards. Another rush across the quay and through the Customs Shed ? pas d?emb?tements ? and, having found and bagged our sets, we had a twenty minutes stroll on the platform. And oh, the fun of it! Listening to the talking and shouting in French, reading the notices and advertisements, noticing again the queer lowness of the platforms and the two or three steps up to the train. Then away to Paris through the flats of the Pas de Calais.' |
