Evidence: | 'In the Leader this evening was published an autobiography of John Wallace & his portrait was given away with each copy of the paper. The likeness was a very good one & I bought it for the sake of "Auld lang syne" but why "John" should have received such public notice I can scarcely understand. He is an enterprising man & may be a "successful colonist" but few people know him & comparatively few have ever heard of him. The whole thing smacks rather much of the advt. & I expect a pretty large share of this week's Leader will be purchased by "John Wallace".' |
