Hervey Allen : Anthony Adverse

Transcript of interview: 'The school library had a reasonably wide selection ā€“ we could take out one fiction and one non-fiction a week but the English teacher would vet them to see what we were taking out. There was a book called Anthony Adverse that fell open at a specific page because it had what we thought was a scene of terrifically kinky sex ā€“ I think actually that it was probably really very mild ā€“ just the woman was on top and we were very intrigued by it. Iā€™m sure the English teacher had never read that.'

Century: 1900-1945     Reader/Listener/Group: Hilary Spalding      Print: Book
