Additional Comments:
One of a group of some 70 works read mainly while journeying, with Edward Strachey, between a post in Benares and his next posting in Poona. Title as given has not been traced. It is likely that two titles have been conflated: Henry Strachey's "A narrative of the mutiny of the officers of the army in Bengal in ... 1766" (London, 1773) and a history of Persia. [This may be a transcription error in the source.] The title is identified as Strachey's history of the Bengal mutiny on the grounds that external sources confirm that Elphinstone travelled with a copy of Henry Strachey's work.
