Evidence:

'I am reading Goethe's life. With what enthusiasm he made his journey into Italy. It is pleasant to read or hear of any persons who allow themselves to go beyond the commonplace bounds of hacknied [sic[ feeling, and who dare to think and judge for themselves, independently of the dry maxims laid down by road books'.

Additional Comments:

Date given is 1871, which is obviously wrong. Reversing it to 1817 is dubious too as she has previously written about reading a book publ. in 1818. Since the chronology is so confused in Bury's diary it is probably safer to say date unknown - 1815-1820. She organised the material long afterwards.
