Mother was very friendly with Madeleine Rolland, the author?s sister, during our stay in Paris, during the war. I find it interesting, but only as a good sketch of fine pacifist thought, but even more as a vivid reproduction of that almost forgotten period ? the war ? and the extraordinary chaos in which mind and intellect were swallowed up over three quarters of Europe.'
