Evidence: | 'I have just completed Havelock Ellis? ?From Rousseau to Proust?, a kind of psychological survey of the ?subjective? writers of the period between the two named. It was excellent ? you know I am a classic ? so I naturally admire a critic who makes all the ?back to nature? people abnormals, and their genius merely Peter Parishness to the nth: I think you have heard me say that many times in one form or another. The best thing in the book however, was an appreciation of ?The Grand Meaulnes?. The essay appeared originally as an introduction to the English translation of the book, and really is a fine bit of work. I am going to try and find the book if possible. It is called ?The Wanderer?.' |
