| Evidence: | 'Thank you for sending me a copy of the United Methodist containing the article "Books and Bookmen", which deals with the close resemblances between an episode in Charles Shaw?s anonymous book, "When I was a Child" and an episode in Clayhanger. Let me remark that I am a fairly regular student of the columns of the United Methodist and other denominational organs, and I only wish that certain papers of a different stamp showed as keen an interest in literature as you do.
As soon as I heard of it I bought the book with the full intention of using it if I could, as I have bought and used scores of historical books bearing on the district or period in which I happened as a novelist to be interested.'
