Evidence: | 3 pp of ms at the end of v.1 appear to be brief notes abstracted from details in the text. Each page is ruled and divided into 3 columns headed, 'Substance', 'Symptoms', 'Corrections' [ie remedy]. Example: 'Alkalies - Soda Ammonia Lime &-', 'Nearly the same [ie as the entry above for concentrated acids] -the ejected matter does not effervesse [?] with alkalies but with acids'. 'Vinegar or limejuice - a spoonful or two in a glass of water frequently - or simply warm [?] water'. There are 9 such entries.

The identification of Dr Sibbald as the reader who created the ms notes is tentative. The date at which the book entered the Dunimarle Library is unknown but must be after 1821 (the publication date of v.2) and before 1872 when the youngest member of the family, Magdelene Sharpe-Erskine died. The most active book collector was her younger brother John Drummond Erskine (died 1836) but she also added to the collection. Neither were medically trained. |
