Evidence: | Horsemonger Lane Gaol - Visiting the cells:
'On looking into another cell, we saw a prisoner sentenced to penal servitude, engaged reading by his table, having just finished his dinner. He was born in Canada, and came to this country with his father in early life, to secure certain property left by an uncle. He was a good looking man, a costermonger, and complained he had been hunted by the police from pillar to post, and driven into misfortune.' |
