Mr John W. senior broke out on the dependent and enslaved State of the County etc. I said that I had accepted his Son's invitation, to testify my respect for his family, and my personal regard for his Son ... I begged to state that as to the fact of the county being represented by two of the Family of Lowther no person lamented it more than your Lordship. I then read part of that sentence in your Letter where you speak of it as a misfortune ... '
