Taken from letter from JBW to Thomas Carlyle dated 19 July 1825, written at Haddington. Pages 353-355 in this edition. Editor's note includes a note by TC stating that this replaced the first will that JBW made in January 1824, and that it was executed on 19th July 1825. Mr Donaldson was Mrs Welsh's family lawyer.
